At Kindred, our development process centers on people, not products. We took a user-centered, iterative approach, focusing first on building, testing, and refining a prototype for Module 1 while mapping out the foundation for later modules. By starting with a single, well-tested module, we were able to gather authentic feedback, validate our design choices, and set high standards for the entire course.
Building Together
We believe the best learning experiences come from ongoing partnership. Early in development, we invited teachers and stakeholders to review prototypes and share insights, ensuring every decision—from content structure to visual design—was grounded in real classroom needs. Our use of collaborative tools like Miro enabled us to map out ideas visually and track progress transparently, while our iterative feedback cycles kept our work responsive and relevant.
Choosing Tools with Purpose
To create an adaptable and engaging course, we selected tools that balance flexibility, accessibility, and collaboration:
Articulate Storyline for custom, interactive learning modules
Canva for designing cohesive visuals, layouts, and job aids
Google Workspace (including a companion Google Site) for resource sharing, collaboration, and ongoing professional learning
We also launched a virtual Professional Learning Community, inviting teachers to access resources, share best practices, and contribute to the course’s continuous improvement. This collaborative space fosters community and drives sustainable change.
Designing for Active Engagement
We designed every module to encourage meaningful participation and real-world practice. Interactive elements—such as branching scenarios, reflection prompts, and case studies—invite teachers to apply new strategies, test decisions in safe contexts, and connect learning to their daily realities. These active learning opportunities are woven throughout the course, supporting both individual growth and peer collaboration.
Iteration, Quality, and Inclusion
Throughout development, we prioritized iterative improvement. Early access and feedback surveys—shared via Articulate Review 360 and Google Forms—enabled us to refine content and user experience at every stage. We applied a custom quality assurance checklist for navigation, accessibility, and accuracy, ensuring that each module meets high standards and is ready for diverse classrooms.
Every aspect of the course is designed for inclusion and accessibility, aligning with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and global best practices. Features like screen reader compatibility, clear language, and multiple engagement options ensure that educators of all backgrounds and abilities can benefit. Our modular structure, reusable processes, and commitment to sustainability make it easy for districts anywhere to adapt, update, and grow the course over time.
